A piston on the gearbox which opens and closes is aided by a spring. I 'm sure you know which one it is as there is only one spring located midway right hand side of the gearbox. This spring has flown off somewhere, but the gears still seem to operate as normal.
Do you know why that is and what the use the spring has?

From what you describe it sounds like the return/tension spring on the Clutch slave cylinder. Is it on the bellhousing or the ZF transaxle?
