If you mean the ball-end of the steering rod and the socket-washer on the end of the rack-gear, thats spring loaded and will always have some movement, depending on how hard you pull. The adjustment specs assume the unit is on a bench, but in a pinch, it can be done on the car. The spanner nut on the steering rod is tightened against the rack-gear socket until the steering rod with tierode end installed, barely will support it own weight without sagging when moved. So its sort of subjective, really. Then the spanner-nut is staked into the groove in the rack-gear. I just went thru such a build-0up in the current July POCA magazine, coincidently.
