Does anyone have a stock fan they want to get rid of? Only one of mine is working. Also a question on the temp guage. It was working fine until I took out the pressure tank to paint it. After I re-istalled it and filled it up I get no reading. The electrical connection is connected but still it only gets to about 100 degrees. One more question when I bought the car it had no thermostat. Should I have one in the car? If so what temp stat should I put in. It has the restrictor plate (brass) in the block already and I thought someone put it there to slow down the water flow. But I hear that is stock. Also is there a better place to put a temp sensor? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks

The stock fan motor is a Jaguar windshield wiper motor, available from any Pantera vendor. Better, cheaper motors are also available. Try the San Diego swap meet in July for used ones. Also check your fuses- they commonly corrode slightly and do not conduct but look OK visually. As for the temp sender, it should not be in the water tank. Move it to the plugged hole below the thermostat where Ford designed it to fit. Use the removed plug to fill the unused port in the water tank. The engine desperately needs a thermostat. The brass washer works with the 351C thermostat to block off a warm-up circuit built into the engine. No thermostat= overheating as 25% of the water will bypass the radiator.
I use a 180 Hi-Flow available from Pantera East. To change it is easiest to do if you do it from inside the vehicle and remove the bulkhead. Remove the 2 bolts holding the thermostat housing, carefully, they are prone to breaking and a bear to remove if they do break. The thermostat housing has a pipe that runs back to the water bottles.

It is also easiest to get at the area in the front of the block to put the temp sensor if you remove the bulkhead cover.

NO, the area is pretty easy to access. Best thing is to remove the upholstered back panel, then pull loose the vinyl & very carefully trim the fiberglas to make the blister part removeable. Velcro glued onto the outside of the steel removeable panel and the inside of the fiberglas blister will hold the fiberglas. Then access the next time is a snap, and it looks stock. As for thermostats, if you drop a 3/8" freeze plug into the hole in the big brass washer under the thermostat, it blocks off the warm-up bypass. Then any thermostat fits. I use a 190 'cause thats where my engine runs regardless...
