Well the problem I thought I solved I didn't. My problem is when I drive my car the temp gauge only reads aprox 150 no more on less no matter how warm the air temp is. I think the problem may be the temp sender??? Anyone have any ideas. If is is the sender will a stock sender work? I have a 74 Pantera what year and make ford product will work? Any way of checking the gauge for a bad ground etc. Thanks for you're time...

I'm restoring my 71 at the moment and after reading several articles and browsing through the forums , I've come to conclusion that the stock gauges in this vehicle (shall we say are not the best) If your guage is showing 150 degree's and it was correct you would probably have the coolest running pantera out there, I'd be willing to bet it's actually running a lot higher. Still researching some affordable options as far as guages are concerned but I'm sure others on this forum will be able to have some valuable input.
There was a discussion on this Forum very recently about the best location for the temp sending unit. I think within the last 10 or definitely 30 days. Best location is on the engine block as I recall. Seems there's an area of low water flow that doesn't register properly when the sending unit is located in the original location on the radiator. Best to review those posts though.
Ron is correct! The sender is to be located on the engine block front just below the thermostat housing/elbow. NOT in the original position of the expantion tank. I purchased a new sender from NAPA or Kragen auto parts. Just ask for the 351 Cleveland or BOSS 351 Sender. It worked perfect!! The cost?? $6.35. Good-Luck with it! Regards, Marlin.
A second thought!! If you think you are getting a faulse reading, you should be sure of your grounding cables, both in the front trunk(from the battery), and in the rear from the frame to the transaxle. Also under the dash in the far drivers corner(about 10 ground wires come together at ONE stud), has been known to cause "lame" gauge readings. But deffinitely move the sender, if it is still located in the expantion tank. Marlin.
