I took my 73 out early this weekend and when I used the headlights (rarely used, putting a load on the electrical system) I noticed the headlights "pulsing" and the ampmeter really pulsing (more than normal, ps-I don't have a shunt across the back but I think I know what "normal" is).
Anyway, studied this forum and took it to AutoZone and diagnostic said bad voltage regulator...$20 later and about a half hour and all SEEMs fine.
Thanks Forum!

Assuming the regulator was the mechanical type, after you installed it do you have to perform any checks to be sure the relay's contact is set correct to provide the right voltage?

The new regulator had the same mounting holes BUT it was significantly lighter...like it is electronic not mechanical. I just installed it and everything works (without the pulsing and the meter needle bouncing).

Not in awe...I live in a town of about 2,000...so they kinda know me (but I do have some pretty funny stories of patrons who don't know me or my car(s).
