We have had the new "Ultimate Bulletin Board" in place for about a month. The reaction to it by site visitors has been quite divided. Some users are very pleased with the board while others have sharply criticized it.
Certainly, the new board is less friendly. The old board permitted visitors to simply type in their message and submit it. Sadly, the messages were posted in no particular order and the user who posted the message could not be automatically notified of any responses. Indeed, there was no way to respond to a posting with placement of the response in close proximity to the original message. The present board has that feature and site visitors who register have the added power of being able to edit their original message if they wish. A close inspection of all of the features of the new board will reveal many other interesting options as well.
What initially prompted the updating of the board was the fact that our former host is shutting down their server and due to the high amount of traffic we receive, the club found a new host that could not utilize the old board as constituted and offer anywhere near the functionality of the new board. It was also becoming difficult due to time constraints for us to edit postings, remove them or track information.
I can appreciate that some site visitors are finding the new board to be harder to navigate. I initially agreed with this observation. However, once you become familiar with the controls and features, we believe you will go on to realize that the new board is far superior to the old and not all that hard to use. Just being able to post topics in categories and to see the responses properly ordered and easy to find, is a huge plus in our opinion.
We would like to suggest that we continue to use and learn the new system. You are free to email us with any questions and we will try to supply "tech support". If too many users are still unhappy as time goes by, then we will investigate making changes as appropriate.
We are pleased that so many enthusiasts visit this site and hope that the new technology doesn't turn you off to our organization. Our foremost concern is continuing to exchange information and we believe that the current "UBB" is an extension of that goal.
