Throttle cable and linkage

Need help.

My Throttle cable snapped and now comes the task of replacing it. When looking at the Pantera Tech manual I have to admit it is not as clear as I would like. Does anyone know of a better schematic to read from? I also suspect the previous owner must have made some changes as I notice a difference in the bracket where the cable came up over the drivers side head before going back to the carb.

Has anyone also addressed the linkage with a different, if possible better approach? Are there other alternatives?
