I use the max pressure that is specified on the tire,for street and open track.In my case its 44 psi on yokohama 345/35/15 and 285/40/15's.DO NOT DROP YOUR PRESSURE for drag racing unless you have wrinkle wall drag radials or slicks.If you want to drag race your car with low profile tires you need to ride the clutch at the starting line to minimize wheel spin.you wont have a good 60 foot time,and your 1/4 mile time will suffer 2 to 5 tenths. Dont pop the clutch on a transaxle car.It can be really expensive.If you have adjustable shocks,set the front ones as loose as they will go, as this will help weight transfer to help the rear tires grip(sucks for everything else though).
Which kind of track? For turn-both-ways race tracks, we used as high as 48 psi front/52 psi in the rears. This stiffens up the tire casing so precise control is possible, but on the road, it'll cause you to swap fillings in your teeth! I advise NOT dropping the pressure below mfgrs recommendations, since at low pressure, the tread actually goes concave, reducing surface area and drops traction while rapidly increasing wear. Please remember, while DeTomasos are beautiful, fast road cars, they do NOT make good drag-racers. For that, buy a junkyard Mustang and you'll drag faster with the same engine. Incidently, Corvettes and most other independent-rear-suspension sportscars don't drag well, either. Unless you alter the whole rear suspension, which then destroys their road-handling.
