It looks like my throw out bearing return springs have been binding on the stands in the case, at full extension. This would tell me that I don't have enough travel in the system to match what the slave is doing (moving) from where I zero out or gap the T/O lever's movement to allow some clearance of the T/O bearing and the pressure plate fingers at rest.

Are these two springs really necessary if I remove them and install an external return spring (that hopefully would not be binding!) to take their place at pushing the slave piston back up it's bore?

I don't see any way to make the stock springs work any better, unless I take to shimming the T/O bearing on the adapter...which may not work for much additional clearance before the T/O bearing won't stay in place!

The only other thing I can do is take the metal block plate out between the block and the bellhousing...gain 1/16" of "less clearance" between T/O bearing and clutch fingers... Lever then doesn't need to move so far to zero the lever position. (Following Ford's standard old school recommendation to allow about 1/16-1/8" of T/O bearing movement before the fingers engage....for the type of T/O bearing and clutch (Long type) that I am running in the Goose.)

Any thoughts?
