Trans is back

What was done and what was the cost ?

This was a spare trans that came with my newly acquired project car. All but one of the ring gear bolt had sheared off. I'm not sure how but the ring and pinion were not damaged. Took it to RBT they checked it out added new synchro's couple of bearings and new ring gear bolts. Was also missing misc. parts fill plug, drain plug, bolts & nuts. parts and labor just under $1,900 Polishing was $750 This was the second trans I have had polished and RBT's polisher does outstanding work. The first trans was polished by a local guy I use and it looked good but not outstanding for about the same cost.
Rebuilding the ZF just wasn't something I wanted to do myself. My time is better spent scraping off undercoating on the engine compartment and tasks like that if you know what I mean.

RTB did 5 Synchro's, a couple of bearings, ring gear bolts and misc parts and labor for $1900.00 ?
I'd say you made out pretty well considering he gets 280.00 just for one steel synchro alone without any labor.

only 2nd and 3rd synchro's LOL...
See why my time is better spent scraping undercoating.

Daaamn! That looks sharp! Now the hard part........keeping it looking that good. Looks like money well spent.

Was the transaxle coated after being polished?

Hopfully not, coating them after polishing is a mistake, as I've learned, the hard way.

Absolutly gergeous!..We all shoud have spares. Please don't burn the top of it. I have a test vehicle I can put in in while I send mine to the Man..What a deal! Coz, I look down at my hands and think ....why. Very nice work..

I know what you mean. But now that I'm done with mine, it was worth the effort and saving 750.00 to spend elsewhere on my car.

But RTB did a very nice job on it, or should I say the people they sent it out to, that actually did the polishing did a great job. It looks beautiful.

Sometimes work is like pain...once your done ..it just wasent' that bad after it is over.

Thanks, glad to hear your cars in running again. The PI event with all the great cars really helps the motivation.
