Mr. Daley, no one has answered your question, and I wish I could but I have never owned a race car, like what you have. I do know my clutch started slipping once, but I was able to adjust it. Later when I put a new engine in, I put a new clutch in also and that fixed it. But it would rev without a corresponding degree of acceleration. No clunks or noises though.
DeTom,
Thank you for your reply, I really don't think its the clutch. Is it possible that maybe spider gears slip and then grab, it releases and grabs just for a second only in first gear.
Once again your the reason I am here, guys like you that take part in trying to help us novice mechanics.
Thanks
Dennis.
OH, buy the way, my car is just a street car. not a race car.
Thanks
I have had posi traction chevy rear ends that clunked and grabbed. The anser was to clean the rear end with solvent and refill with genuine gm dope and a bottle of genuing gm additive for limited slip. In my pantera i run full sythetic fluid. You recon it could be your limited slip clutches, or discs?
Dennis make sure that the fluid level is correct. Put in some GM posi addative.
The problem is probably in the suspension, not the clutch or posi.
The Pantera posi is very quite and smooth.
If the clutch is going to slip, and at 500hp it can, it usually would be in the top gears when you floor the accellerator. You will get a sudden rpm rise without corresponding increase in mph.
The 11 ich seems to slip more then the 10.5 for some reason on the Cleveland. I never could figure that one out. It could be iron versus steel billet flywheel also.
My steel flywheel gets glazed with hot spots all over it. The cheap iron one doesn't. Figure that one out.
The dual friction, which I've got in, is thought to have a maximum hp holding power of 500hp.
You are right at the limit. If you hit it with nitrous you will definately toast it.
Dam, what's a boy to do? Can't use my 1000horses no place! My Ranch is really getting crowded here. I'd go to Australia but they drive on the wrong side of the road.

Chalie, correct me if I am wrong (which I often am) but if the ring gear bolt backed out they would have already destroyed the inside of the case because of the very, very tight clearances?

People get scared when they find the bolts are actually loose, and the reaction is "Oh My God!" when they see how in perill everything is in there.
Lloyd Butfoy terms safety wireing as "cheap insurance". When you open it up you will see what he is talking about.
The ZF is anything but builtproof.
