Fred, Note that 3.5 L is what a totally disassembled, then reassembled ZF dash-2 takes. It is impossible to fully drain an assembled ZF. I once drained one for welding, then took the bottom cover off and let it drip into a pail for a day, then tipped it up on end for a weekend. When I separated the cases, there was enough lube left inside to wash an average garage floor!
Position horizontally and fill at least three times over 24 hrs to the bottom of the side fill hole; 75W90 is the thickness of honey and flows slowly & reluctantly & ZFs have lots of internal baffles.
You didn't specify but note the smaller case Dash-1 (Mangusta), Dash-1.5 (pushbutton Pantera), and Dash-zero ZF (GT-40) only take 2.1 liters when totally empty. Proportionately less when already assembled.
