Holy crap! Two freakin’ days with no rain? Awesome. Even better, it means two days of cruising. Finally, we’re making up for one of the worst summers ever. Anyhow, today I called Carmen and we planned a little ride.
It was sunny and cool. To you Californians, it was freezing. Our cool is 40 degrees. Farenheit. It was actually damn cold, but the cats love the cool weather and so I headed over to Carmen’s for an early morning espresso with his wife Mary
On the way I stopped by Robert’s to check out his cat and see if he wanted to join us. It was already covered and put away for the winter. Too bad. A very short season for some. I tried to get Gaetano to join us but he was suffering from a wedding that ended around 5 am.
So I had a nice espresso with Carmen’s family and I listened to his teenage daughter talking about her strict parents. Always a shit disturber, I egged them all on telling them how my 16 year old daughter was away in Vermont for the weekend with her boyfriend. Which is kind of true. Anyhow, something about the old school Italian family rules for girls – so I just wanted to give them a little bit of the way it is. And so, after aggravating them and leaving the women something to argue about, we headed out.
We left his neighborhood with the fall leaves scattering behind our 345s and went west towards Ottawa. We thought about dropping in on Mark but came across the signs for Hudson and the Ferry. Hudson is a nice waterfront community 30 miles from town. Sort of like the small CT town where the stressed out NYC workaholics live. Just colder.
We roared through the changing trees and winding roads and then rolled right onto a ferry waiting to take us across the river. Really nice. Really cold. We actually got a very cold spray out in the middle of the crossing, but Carmen’s yellow cat got the worse of it.
We stopped for a bite on the other side. Fortunately I never have to worry about going hungry when on the road with Carmen and his son Lorenzo. Lorenzo is pretty much a guaranteed pit stop for food every 45 minutes. So after some legit Quebecois gourmet food - hot dogs and greasy fries - we headed down some country roads and came across a nice apple orchard. For you California guys, this is apple season. It gets cool, the apples get crisp and the trees explode with colour, er color. Yeah, we hate winter, but along the way we enjoy 4 spectacular seasons with stuff like these trees.
After chatting with the local farmers and hot rodders along the road, we headed home. Another awesome day in the cat. And since it’s Canada’s Thanksgiving Day weekend, no work tomorrow. If the weather holds out, it will be another day in the Pantera tomorrow.
One day we'll retire with our cats to FL or CA and enjoy this every day. Until then we'll stick with our Canadian cold and it'll be like bashing our heads with a hammer - at least it feels good when it stops.
