I am currently using a set of the typical cast DeTomaso valve covers designed by Hall. I am using a 3/4" PCV valve in the left side and a Ford Motor Sports twist on breather on the right side. It was the only one I could find years back that would fit in the twist on opening.

I have decided to replace the breather with a good quality K&N or other filtered breather. The question is there any advantage/disadvantage to using a 1" OD tube breather over a 3'4" OD tube breather ? Or am I over analyzing this ?

The breather must be capable of allowing as much air to flow into the crankcase as is being drawn out through the PCV valve into the intake manifold. This is to avoid any significant negative pressure in the crankcase. The oil pump cannot pump oil if it's suction is under a vacuum.

Sounds like your new breather will be significantly larger then the oem unit, in which case, you're over analyzing.
