I'm trying to adapt a Veglia oil pressure guage to a small block Chevy 350. I have the correct sending unit for the guage but can not easily adapt it to fit the Chevy small block. I can plug the Chevy sending unit to the guage but get zero reading. Not sure if some sort of RC circuit could be created so that the gauge can read what the sending unit is providng. Any knowledge or recommendation would be appreciated.

The Veglia sender should be 1/4 NPT (asuming its a Ford/Pantera unit), the Chebbie should be a 1/8 NPT. This is a std brass plumbing adpater that should be available at most home hardware store plumbing depts.

Here's an example online....

It's gotta be way cheaper and have higher success than the electronic alternative.

Rick,

Jullian's link is for a pipe bushing. What you need is a pipe thread adapter that has a 1/8" male pipe thread by 1/4" female pipe thread.

Most NAPA stores carry Weatherhead fittings. The Weatherhead number is 3200x4x2. Follow the link below for a pic. Scroll down to "adapter".

Here's a link to NAPA:

Uh, those two items are the exact same thing.

threaded pipe bushing

threaded pipe adapter

Just a difference in terminology.

In any case, Daytona Rick seems to be making this much more of a problem than it really is.

Doesn't Chicago have hardware stores, plumbing stores, or NAPA outlets?

Thank you for the correction, although I referred to an adapter in the text I did indeed post a link to an incorrect part for Rick's application.

In terms of the semantics of the use of 'adapter' or 'bushing' if one looks up the definition of a bushing it is indeed "An adapter threaded to permit joining of pipes with different diameters". A bushing is an adapter, an adapter is not necessarily a bushing.

Hopefully Rick will be in touch with which is his male side and which is his female Big Grin

I certainly hope so! Big Grin

Julian,

Thanks for the semantics lesson. Smiler Many companies and trades use a word to describe a part that does not encompass the exact dictionary definition of the part. Also, there are additional dictionary definitions for 'bushing' and 'adapter'.

Bushing:

1. "Electricity. a lining for a hole, intended to insulate and protect from
abrasion one or more conductors that pass through it.

2. "Machinery.
a. a replaceable thin tube or sleeve, usually of bronze, mounted in a
housing as a bearing.
b. a replaceable hardened steel tube used as a guide for various tools
or parts,as a drill or valve rod."

Adapter:

"a connector for joining parts or devices having different sizes, designs,
etc., enabling them to be fitted or to work together."

Anyway, I think that everyone gets the idea and, hopefully, Rick has located and installed the correct part and has his problem solved.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

John
Larry,

Actually it should not look like that as that is a bushy thing. That is what John correctly pointed out which kinda got lost in the posts for us to all be gramatically correct. Which may be damned hard for me having grown up with the Queen's English.... I still can't bring myself to spell perfectly good English words wrong Big Grin

It should look like this as the Chebbie block is 1/8" and the Veglia sender 1/4".
