I was looking at how much tires are for the car I don't have yet and came across a tire called Vredestein. I remember these being sold here in the 70's and early 80's in car magazines and place called 4 Day Tire Stores here in SoCal. From what I understand Vredestein is still a major tire manufacturer in Europe.

Anyway I found this tire - it's got an odd tread pattern, but it's an efficient design. I also found the 315-35-17's for $169 and they also offer 225 and 235 17" sizes. http://www.vredestein.com/Banden_Bandtypes.asp?Usersess...oepID=1&BandtypeID=3

I was looking for some reviews on this tire and found it on a Corvette forum. =http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?p=1559871010
It's 18 pages long, but the only negative of this tire is its tread pattern. Everyone said that it held the road much better than the Goodyear F1 SC tires, they were quieter and much cheaper. I didn't read anything about the treadwear, but nobody complained about them wearing out quickly. They also stated that these tires can be rotated from side to side.

When I get my car I think I'll try a set of these since Michelin doesn't make the Pilot Sports anymore.

You mean there are no more 17" Michelin Pilot Sports??

There are several iterations of the Pilot Sport (Pilot Sport, Pilot Sport MX3 and Pilot Sport PS2), with differing tread pattern. The 'Pilot Sport' (with the chevron style tread pattern) is becoming harder to find now. I think it's a bit like the Pirelli P Zero, they were running a batch every now and then. My memory seems to recall talk of Coker picking up the molds, anyone confirm that?

The Pilot Sport PS2's are still available in quantity albeit at a price tag of $445 ea. I have them on the GT5 and I have ben hard on them (3 full track days) and they are holding up very well.

I have emailed them regarding the 245/45x16" and the 335/35x17" tires.

They have both been discontinued.

These were the Pilot Sports of about 5-6 years ago, all the rage. The set on 2511 will have be replaced with something else. At this point, the choices for street tires with matching tread patterns is slim indeed.

17" F/R are in better shape as far as available matching treads, but I fear this will also change in due time - probably sooner than later.

Did the review mention how they handled in the rain?

In the 18 pages that kept me up until midnight the other night, the consensus was that they held better in the rain than the Goodyear F1 SC tires, but I don't know how those compare to the Michelin Pilot Sports. They could still break loose, but it took more power.
