In preparation for the drive to Monterey I changed my ZF oil...actually it's still draining. I'm going to let it drain overnight. When inspecting the drain plug for debris, there were two washers stuck to the magnet on the plug. both are 3/4 inch diameter. one is 1/8 thick and the other is 1/32 thick or...metric equivalent. Where did these come from? My ZF was safety wired 3 years ago and I haven't changed the oil since...maybe 3,000 total miles.

thanks,

John

When you removing the bottom cover, if you are not attentive or don't know that they are there, the spacing washers that Ron is referring to can fall into the case. I was told that if these washers are not replaced in their respective positions that the case can crack when the long cross bolts are tightened. I just disassembled the bottom cover from my spare ZF and it had numerous spacer washers on each side.
