If you think the 4 point plumbers tool would do the job I suggest you use it with a lot of "down force". I don't want to think what would be required if you round all the inside corners off. I hope it wasn't Lock-tighted in!!!

I WOULD TRY A 10 INCH OR LARGER CRESENT WRENCH, BEING THE PLUG IS FOUR SIDED. YOU CAN TIGHTEN THIS WRENCH UP TO A ZERO PLAY FIT, UNLIKE AN OPEN END OR SOCKET WHICH IS NEVER ABSOLUTELY TIGHT. GOOD-LUCK, MARLIN.

THANKS! I STAND CORRECTED! A FEMALE SQUARE HOLE! I RAN INTO ONE A FEW DECADES BACK ON AN OIL PASSAGE OF A PONTIAC 400 (IT WAS 5/16" SQUARE, NO SUCH DRIVER!). SO I TOOK THE NEXT SIZE LARGER SQUARE DRIVE (3/8") EXTENSION AND GROUND IT DOWN, (OFCORSE YOU NEED A GRINDER) SO I HAD TO HAMMER THE VERY, VERY SLIGHTLY TAPERED SQUARE SHANK INTO THE FEMALE HOLE, LOCKING IT INTO PLACE! AND WITH ZERO PLAY. THEN USING AN ADAPTER TO A 1/2" BREAKER BAR APROX. 20" LONG I GAVE IT A GRUNT, SUCCESS!! SHE CAME LOOSE! TRY IT, BY MAKING IT SO TIGHT THAT YOU HAVE TO DRIVE IT IN, MAKES IT LESS LIKELY TO ROUND OUT THE SIDES. AGAIN, GOOD-LUCK, MARLIN.

Thanks for the ideas. By the way mine is an outy, not an inny. While looking through toolsource.com, I came across a couple more possibilities, including a camstyle stud extractor from KD tools. I'll keep you posted.

Success! I used a 12" long 1/2" drive extention, rapped it with a hammer a couple of times and it begrudgingly broke loose with a 12" cresent wrench torqing the extention. Now if I did'nt get to much air in the system I should be all set.

FWIW, I've been told that Ford puts ALL the plugs in their blocks while the block is hot. This includes the oil gallery plugs, the water passage plugs etc. So they are typically very tight.
