I’m pleased to announce that filming is complete, and the DeTomaso Pantera will once again be seen in a movie. In the fall, watch for “Kids in America” starring Topher Grace (That 70’s Show), and Theresa Palmer (just plain gorgeous). The plot leads up to the big party at the “banker’s” house, which was filmed here in Phoenix at a large mansion. A dozen cars were chosen to be near the entrance, but only five or six were used. All the cars were gray, silver or brown, except my yellow #4357 Pantera. The art director really liked the bright color, so it sits right adjacent to the door as the cast goes in and out. Because the entrance is a huge piece of glass, I think it will be seen in some of the inside shots as well. I asked if they wanted my red Ferrari, too, but they said no – they wanted the Pantera! On the DVD, in the “special features” section, there will be interviews with the producers/directors, and they often used the Pantera as a background.
Since that portion of the movie took place at night, we filmed from 8pm to 5am, for several days in a row. I haven’t pulled all-nighters like that since college! We were allowed to take pictures, but not with the flash. Unfortunately, the exposure times were so long that most of my photos came out badly blurred. But I do have a couple with Topher Grace, and the house entrance. This was my first movie making experience, and I’m dying to see how much of the car makes it into the movie. Our cars will be famous again. -Steve
