Hi Mark,

I have recently rebuilt my dash 2. I intend to post a story about it when I get time. My rear tyres are 335,35,17. I had to replace the CW&P but stuck with the 4.22, I also installed the tallest 5th that Lloyd makes, 6.20 I think it is. This gives about 15MPH more top speed, and makes high speed cruising quieter and much more relaxed.
I dont like the 3.77 as I feel it stifles the engine, and makes the car feel less urgent and less exciting. If you run 345,35,15 rear tyres, then the 3.77 would probably be the best ratio.

When I change from 4th at 6000RPM into 5th the car does not pull as hard as it used to, but this will be addressed with my new engine. I intend to build an engine that will rev, that way I can have my low gearing and high top speed.

My friend has a GT5 with 345,35,15's and had Lloyd install a 3.22, even with a 427 Dart engine that dyno's at 550HP, it is still stifled. He is now going to change it for a 3.77

The most fun thing about driving a Pantera is accelerating up through the gears. If you install a 3.77 with 335,35,17's it will feel like you are towing a caravan. Even with a 427.
If you intend to run the Silverstate, well, that's different.

Rapier,

The Panteraplace website has an Excel based spreadsheet where you can play with ratios, rpm and speed for given tire sizes. With the stock ratios it is spot on for my car running 335/35 -17's. Lloyd has all the available gear ratio and final drive options listed on his website.

If I were to change anything it would be for the taller 5th, probably the 0.642, and maybe to a 4.0 final drive.

I don't want do 200, but I do want to be able to cruise quietly and economically at 70mph.

If you have a 200 mile journey - with the motor buzzing at the same revs as a 2 litre you get through a lot of fuel - and at $1.70 a LITRE that's expensive.

4 gears for the twisty bits and 1 one for cruising is good for me.
If I had a powerfull engine, with like 500 foot pounds of torque, what I would do is switch to the 3.73 rear axle ratio, but then change all the gear set to a wider ratio between gears. That way you could granny gear first to where the effective ratio is the same as the standard gear set and put bigger drops of RPM between all the gears and have the highest possible ration in 5th so that you are only turning 2 grand at 70 mph. The extra torue should make up for the larger jump between ratios. That way you have the best of both worlds. Hard acceleration off the line, and a decent top end.
Of course I will never have this worry as I will never have the funds to do such a thing, but it is always nice to fantasize what you would do if you were rich. Big Grin
Doug

You need to get yourself outta that City Traffic and over to the West Coast and tell that to the Team Pantera guys running the Silver State.

Junior Wilson's Pantera was clocked at 265 mph.

Silver State - 1. Run on a Highway ("a street")2. Legal (i.e. no cops gonna stop you and pull you over at 200 mph, not that he could catch you anyway)Wink What technicalities? hehe Big Grin

Oh yeah, and I bet you drive to the letter of the law and legal on the street all the time....

Julian, the term "street" generally refers to street legal driving

Me, I'd like to give the Silver State a go at least once, whether it will be next May I don't know. This winter will see a major overhaul and Group 4 conversion, so we'll see how that goes.

Yup you caught me, I was just doing 195 the other day.
The point is frankly I'd rather drive a street legal 10 second car that can do 150.
The 200 +mph numbers you guys are kicking around are from fantasy land.
There are only a few drivers in the world that are capable of them. I am not.
I appologize, I didn't realize that you were.
Sorry.

Hey Doug, no apologies necessary here, just friendly banter, where's all that wit gone? Me, I'm not one of them there guys neither, I'll be looking at the 120 mph class for my first run and wouldn't ever expect to get above the 140 or max 150 class even if I get to doing a couple events. I just want to be there for the fun, thrill and 'done that' factors.
