I have a stock floor pan 74 pantera and i'm 5'7" so I don't have head/leg clearance challenges but would sure like to know what brand and model seats will drop in and fit perfectly that have more lateral support. I know Vette seats are very popular...anything cheaper than that out there we don't know about? Like more like $150-$200 each like you see all over the place for sale? example ebay.
I know they have to be very thin in the cushion and not very wide to clear the parking brake. Any idea's and pictures?

Emery,

I found that anything that looks half decent, i.e. tasteful enough and fitting to grace the Pantera interior costs $$. Sound familiar? Roll Eyes

If your patient you should get a set of Corvette seats on Ebay for the sort of budget you mention. I picked up a pair from a '96 for $350 inc. $75 shipping, but I'm a mainlander, there's always a downside to living in paradiseBig Grin

I preferred the slightly more rounded style of the 94-96 Vette to the dated 84-93 square bolster and with newer seats the leather hopefully won't have gone too hard if cared for properly.

To save even more $$ go for a color other than premium $$ black and refurbish/recolor them yourself if your up to it, the process will also re-supple the leather. All the Vette parts vendors sell quarts of recoloring dye for about $38.

I used to have a Vette in another life, died and ended up in Pantera heaven this life Big Grin

You'll need to strip the old leather color sealer, light sand teh result and then paint the new dye on (a number of coats will be required and subsequent coats will be best sprayed on) then use a resealer and leather treatmentt to finish the job.

There are a few vendors that sell complete kits & instructions for the job, including the dye color of your choice. One such vendor (and I'm in no way attesting to their service or product) is Leather Magic (www.leatehrmagic.com). I'm sure an internet search would throw up many more options and instructions.

Julian
Sorry about the typos, its late; as you will have guessed that should read www.leathermagic.com

That's the seat I have (they are still awaiting install, as I've had other P car priorities over and above comfort at present). I have the manual (non electric) seat version and as the Vette lower frame is plastic its easy to mount the stock Pantera seat tracks to the Vette seat frame.

Julian has made a good recommendation. I like the C5 Corvette seats too, I was seriously considering the sport versions, until I was able to put together a good deal on ebay for the Momo Speed 2 seats (similar looks).

One thing I'll mention about the 'Vette seats, inexpensive seat covers (non leather) are available on ebay if you want to recover them, instead of dyeing the leather.

Emery,

George is right, both vinyl and leather (although expensive) covers are readily available for Vette seats. Not wanting to be pedantic and split hairs but the 94-96 seats are still C4 era, C5's came out in '97.

Note the shipping charges on your $100 or $200 seats on Ebay $140 & $150, a common ploy to reduce ebay commision on sales price.

If Vette seats appeal to you I suggest you explore and price up off Ebay alternatives (far from the madding crowd), there are a number of specialist Vette breakers and recyclers, whom could probably cut you a deal.

Sorry, Julian, I mis read your post. Too many numbers in a row, too late in the evening. That's my story & I'm sticking to it. Otherwise you might blame it on my advancing years.

Emery, good deals on ebay, for those with patience.

I used seat mounts from a mid 80s mustang, cut off the dog legs that attach the mounts to the floor pans and rewelded the floor pan attachment points directly to the seat mounts. In other words I just shortened the monts by about 2-3". They fit great you can check them out on my website.

Hey Jeff, neat 5.4! Is that a crate engine? What did you (are you) doing to wire it into the Pantera? Did it bolt up the ZF or did you need an adaptor?
I presume that you will shorten the velocity stacks at some point?

I think I still have the only 5.4 Pantera in existence. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, anyway to answer your questions:

Is that a crate engine?

No junkyard motor I had it rebuilt with forged internals; hi comp pistons; ported heads, stage 3 cams, and custom intake manifold

What did you (are you) doing to wire it into the Pantera?

Wiring was easy I just used an ACCEL Gen 7 EMIC.

Did it bolt up the ZF or did you need an adaptor?

Bolted right up wih minimum mods

I presume that you will shorten the velocity stacks at some point?

Already done but I would like to get new ones that are even shorter maybe 2-3" long.
Kris,

that's a sweet 5.4 sitting in your engine bay. I think the mod motors are the future for the Pantera. As the younger guys, more familiar with those motors become Pantera owners, we'll see more and more mod motors getting installed.

Your seats look nice too. Do you have pics in the photo gallery yet?

take care, your friend on the DTBB

Hey Mad Guy,
You must be buddies with a friend of mine. He owns a Lightning and does a of work on 5.4s. He keeps telling me to put the blown 5.4 in my Pantera. I told him something would have to go catastrophically wrong with my Cleveland first. Have you had any problems or concerns with your ZF. I fear making shrapnel of that more than anything. From the pictures it looks like everything fits but I'm sure the blower motor is a lot taller. Do you know how tall your engine is from the bottom of the pan to the top? It looks great, that's for sure.
I just finished doing mine, I'll post some pictures of it later tonight under a new topic.

It was a lot of work. Competely disassembled the interior, switches, gauges, etc.

But, well worth the effort. It looks new again.

I hate to say never but that truck supercharged 5.4 will NEVER fit in a Pantera. The engine is very tall and wide. If anything by a long block and bolt on a centrfigal supercharger. That would work I think. The lightning engines are 16 valve motors and mine is a 32 valve motor.

I am sure you can make the Cleveland faster than a 5.4 but the 5.4 is so much smoother than the Cleveland. It accelerates faster than my old "built" Cleveland and it just looks great in the engine bay!

So, I presume you went the re-dyeing route? Look forward to seeing some before and after pics. I've yet to do mine, but have done it on a previous Vette and as you say a lot of work, but end result was well worth it.
