Where is the Reassigned VIN? We looked everywhere!

This is news to me. I've had mine stripped down for paint and never saw another stamped in vin.

The numbers are in the headlight buckets though.

Pull a headlight and reveal the VIN. This whole story sounds dodge to me.

My early '71 has the numbers stamped on both deck lids and both doors.  I don't know if that continued with the later cars.

Also other Italian small  brand cars use short vin on the parts , chrome trims, brackets, buckets , hoods and all other parts which needs a correct fitment on the body.

Also on the very early Pantera's , later when Ford was involved into a mass production the build of the body's are more precise , with result allo the parts are interchangeable , but it looks that the headlight buckets needs a small modification before the paint job.

And what about the red Pantera #3133 which just was sold on BaT , the vin was restamped , and the dashplate was also not original.

Maybe after a big damage  on the front the stamped chassis number was destroyed by the autorities  or insurance ?

And owner use a vin from a scrabcar and was more handy than the owner of  the car where Sharkey told about.

When an insurance company pay for a loss by stolen or totalled damage, the insurance company become the owner of the car, most of the time you can buy it back when they found it back , or when you pay a remaining amount which is the same as a cardealer or scrabyard will pay.

When you dont have a All -Risk insurance than possible you will be the owner forever , but when the car is sold several times by dealers the , todays owner have a lot of rights when he has bought the car in good faith .

Back in the '70s registration was looser and the Pantera was not well known. Nor-Cal Panteras once got a new member that brought his registration in. His car was registered as a '72 Lincoln and passed smog testing as such! No idea how his insurance was listed.
