Window

If you pull the door panels, you'll find that the frt & rear window channels are two-piece and can be adjusted around for easier running up/down. On some cars (like mine), the window regulator needed a shim washer to center it better in the door. Finally, the window channel felts deteriorate over time, allowing the material to ball up at the top of the channels, restricting travel of the glass. The 'fuzzies' on the inside & outside of the glass also wear, allowing the glass to shake around. All this stuff is pretty cheap at your friendly local Pantera parts vendor, and fits better than aftermarket stuff IMHO.

Ok, since we have a window question I will add mine here. My passenger side window goes down to about an inch left and will not go any further? Any suggestions? And how easy do the door skins come off? Like most cars where you need that funky tool? TIA.

I did not think of that. Guess I will have to live with someone else's poor planning or measuring.

For Tradde's qustion: the window will not go completely down; it will always have a little sticking up. The linkage cannot be repositioned enought to allow the window glass to disappear- I tried. The link will hit the door skin near the bottom, denting it. You'll have to pull both doors' upholstery and check both linkages where they attach to the glass. Possibly one is bolted on slightly higher than the other and can be repositioned. Door skins attach exactly like all other cars: they're bent around the door frame on 4 sides, and maybe tack-welded. This is a MAJOR repair for experienced bodymen only IMHO. Gary Hall used to have a few aluminum skins for sale, possibly left over from the Factory LeMans effort. Bring mucho money....

This info is based on my car built in 6/72.

To remove the inner door panel. Remove the screws around the edge of panel they are small sheet metal screws. Also remove the arm rest 3 large screws located under rubber plugs. The plugs can be pried out with a screw driver. There are 2 or 3 plastic retainers left between the panel and the sheet metal near the top. I just pulled and pried but they might break, mine didn't. Remove door handle 1 screw.
On the window mech. there are adjustable stops that should contact stops before the window glass contacts the limit of travel in the rails. My window would jam and I had to reverse the motor with the hand crank. I adjusted the stops until the window stopped short of contacting anything. The same is true for both directions. The adjustments are right in front you can't miss them. Also align the guides and clean/grease the steel wheels with white Lithum .
The speakers were butted against the motor housing pushing on the whole assembly. I put spacers to move the speakers out from the door panel to stop contact.
Reverse the procedure for assembly of the door panel.
