Window motor dead or just switches?

Well I guess it was only a matter of time but my drivers side window has stopped working. It had the brass gear mod done by the previous owner. Leading up to the failure it would intermittantly not work but seams to work if I fiddled the switch. Now all I get is a high ammeter reading. Is there any chance this is a switch problem? Just jammed?

If it is the motor:
Can I change it out for the one in the passenger door (no left right issues)
Can I have this one repaired?
Odds of finding a good used one
Am I stuck doing one of these conversions I read about on this forum to a newer motor
Is there a manual alternative (crank handle)

I swapped the motor from passenger side to driver side on my '72.

The motor just unbolts from the gearbox - easy.

The tricky bit is getting motor frame out of the door. It's one of those fiddly annoying jobs.

Once it's out of the door it's easy to dismantle, clean, grease and swap bits about.

If it's the switch. Hall do replacements.

They are bosch switches - and look a little different from the originals. So you need two to be neat - but I think there were only $40 each (a year or two back).
The wiring diagram I got didn't seem to match the switches - but I figured it out after an hour or so

High amp reading indicates switch is working and motor is jammed or shorted.

Gavin, it could be the window is stuck in the guide as I found out when my windows started to get very slow. You could hear the elect motors working hard and straining. I removed the door panels and soaked all the guides and linkage with lithium grease which improved window speed and smoother operation. Try pulling on the glass and activating the switch, but do not hold the switch for a long period of time as this could damage the motor. There is also the manual control that you can roll the window with the correct tool. I can't remember what it is, socket , allen wrench.
Otherwise Will can narrow the problem for ya.
