My wipers have been off of the car so long I don't remember the answer to this.

All the cars I see with wipers installed have the wipers parked about three or four inches off of the bottom of the glass.

When I look at the factory installation or should I say publicity photos, they are right on the bottom molding.

Is that how they will park if installed properly or is tha ficticous for the publics benefit?

I have a Pantera without a full set of installed roller rockers - taking a little break before I start throwing things - and Vegas is two weeks away.

Seriously, I'm pretty sure you can get those puppies to park a lot closer than four inches up. May just be a function of the arms' indexing on the shaft splines and/or the position of the park contacts in the drive mechanism.

That is correct and original. The 74 wipers are parked on the right, higher than the previous models. The tips are pointed down, to make the driver's wiper closer to parallel with the pillar when at the extremity of its stroke.

This is to reduce the size of the un-wiped triangle on the driver's side. The 73 and earlier cars have a huge un-wiped triangle on the passenger side.
When mine are "parked" they point downward and the tips almost touch the molding.

There is a certain amount of play in the mechanism. As speed increases the wind causes the wipers to crawl up the windshield a bit, until they are horizontal.

If they were set horizontal when parked, then as speed increased they would crawl too high upon the windshiled and become an annoyance, block vision, etc.

Mike,

every once in a while, I just have to mention, you have a beautiful Pantera. You take good care of it and it shows.

Thanks George,

I started turning wrenches before I had a drivers license back in the olden days when I helped my Dad work on our old 40 Chevy family car. The Pantera has been a lot of fun including the first five years of ownership when I spent a lot of time rebuilding everything. Nowadays my “to do” list is empty and I just do preventive maintenance. Being its caretaker is a joy!
