There are two. I've removed the larger one. The smaller one is frozen. The head is now rounded, gouged and ruined. Is it a must to remove it? I notice it is a little lower in the case.
While I have seen some variations, I have personally only seen 1 drain plug, the one on the underside. The plug on the driver's side is usually the fill plug and the plug for checking the level (keep filled to bottom of that hole unless you have a dipstick elbow threaded in there instead, which is very rare). But you would need to be able to remove both of those plugs periodically.
Gotcha, I haven't seen that variation. But be thankful you have the dipstick, as it's easier and cleaner to check the level. I had one of those formerly. Mine had a bolt/plug on the top rear that was easy to fill from, way easier than most ZFs. I would guess it's not critical that you get that other drain plug out, but you'd probably want to pump out the lower fluid that doesn't get drained, etc. And it would be best if you could get a magnetic plug to monitor things, though it may not work as well in that spot.
As I recall there is one small threaded plug that is not for draining or filing .. I think it provided access to something important. Bosswrench knows what.
