ZF gear oil

Lloyd,

I just changed my ZF gear oil today. It�s been about 4k miles since the last
change, but at that time I found that the last owner had not cleaned the
magnet in the drain plug. In fact it looked like it had never been cleaned
but I know the oil had been changed. I�m wondering how much if any black
metallic goo people find on the drain plug magnet after 4k of street use. I
use Castrol Hypoy C SAE 80W-90 limited slip gear oil and it has a slight
yellow color. I put a spot of the old and new oil on a white paper towel to
compare the color and the old gear oil looked as clean as the new oil that I
used. The owners manual says the gear oil should be changed every 8k, how
often are the forum members changing the oil? FYI, the ZF has been safety
wired and works fine.

4k is good , you will see some fuzz or bits on the mag but not a full head full at 4K you should see less, the more you change the oil.
