I had my tranny polished and noticed somthing that looks like a ball bearing. What is that?

Also when I bought the car I noticed the shifter box is missing something. It is located right below the upsidown ZF logo. What is that?
Where do I buy a replacement?
And do I need it?

the ball bearing may be part of a detent setup
the part on the linkage box sounds like the reverse switch opening.
