ZF Transaxle & Gas Tank Corrosion?

I'm purchasing a 72 Pantera with 27,000 miles. It's been driven once in 3 years and very little in the previous 10 years. How big of a problem is corrosion to the gears in a ZF if it has been sitting? Any way to check it without pulling the engine and transaxle? Hall Pantera's is telling me the gear sets could have coroded and the gas tanks will definitely rust. The inline fuel filter close to the carb appears to be clean of rust.

Any suggestions on checking these issues?

What's the likelyhood of rust on the gear sets?
