About 3 years ago I purchased a very nice replica of a street legal 1969 McLaren M8 Can-Am race car...essentially a highly modified Manta Mirage,( www.mantacars.com ). The car has a polished ZF (I think a Dash 1, with 4 bolts and 2 rear mount points) behind a Donovan aluminum small block Chevy with Kennedy adaptor. The Chevy's claimed horsepower is 450. My question is...the ZF is mounted upside down...it shifts normal and is quiet and smooth. I want to keep it in good condition. Is there any special maintenance or caution when running a ZF upside down? How do you know how much oil to put in it? The drain plug is on top and the side plug is probably wrong as an indicator of oil level. (I have installed a top breather tube.) -Tom Conner

If the conversion was done right meaning all the oiling system you should be ok as the ZF was design to run that way, change oil about every 5000 miles or so and after a track event.
Add 3qts 80-90wt for you set-up. If you don't have a level just drain it all out and start fresh. Lloyd
