I can add 3 notables (Others can add more):

Famous Canadian Hockey player turned entrepeneur .... Tim Horton (Yes, the same Tim Horton from the ubiquitous Canadian coffee chain). Unfortunately he perished in his DeTomaso when he lost control on a highway.

World Famous and one of the all time great F1 World Champion and Team owner ... Sir Jackie Stewart.

Clay Ragazzoni raced a Group 4 as part of a DeTomaso campaign.

I believe also the Sultan of Brunei owned a Pantera.
A guy from New Zealand discovered it some years ago neglected in a yard in Brunei & arranged to purchase it from the Sultan.

I saw a televised interview where Matt Stone interviewed Carrol Shelby and some of Cars were behind them. One of which was a Pantera. I'm pretty sure he was involved with importing some at one point.

I'm at my office today and I am speaking with this very tall and large man who played as a rookie with the Houston Oilers in the '70s. He told me a story of riding, rather cramped, in Dan Pastorini's Pantera enroute to a rodeo. Dan,who would not be satisfied behind anyone, was following Skip Butler,another Oiler, who was driving around 60mph. Dan went to pass and an oncoming car was to close to reasonably proceed. Not to be deterred, Dan buried the throttle pedal and the Pantera leapt forward and made the pass. The rookie was amazed at the acceleration of the cat. He demanded that Dan pull over immediately so as that he could pound the crap out of him for taking that risk. Dan refused to pull over.

Years passed by and the rookie spoke with Dan at a dinner gala just last year. He retold the story to Dan and inquired whether he recalled the incident. With a wink and a big smile, Dan said he never do such a thing.

Our very own Tom Upton, local Pantera racer guy, competed regularly against Pastorini at least a few years back. I haven't spoken with Tom much about it recently to learn if Dan is still competing.

Anyone know Sir Jackie Stewart's S/N?

Is it in Chuck Melton's registry?

POCA's Asa Jay Lawton bought his Pantera from a pro basketball player that loved the car but simply couldn't fit in it comfortably. Don't follow stick-hoop-&-ball games much so don't remember his name. And Todd Glyer's Pantera was once much loved by the star that played the big sorta-friendly alien in Star Trek.

Aww that's not fair, I bet most Panteras have had lots of cosmetic surgery over the years!

I remember hearing back in the '70s that Jerry West (of the LA Lakers) owned a Pantera. When I asked how he fit in it I was told he had a dropped floor pan. Googling around for a few minutes I was not able to confirm this but maybe this is to be expected for such old news.

Rick Nelson had his Pantera serviced at our dealership all the time. He would always come in and say hello every time he serviced it. I tried for years to buy it but he never wanted to sell. After he died I ended up selling his twin sons a yellow one.

Aside from Elvis, this may be the most famous of all Pantera Owners: Jay Leno!!

The guy on the right is the seller, Scott Pinsky who used to be in the South Bay POCA chapter until he moved up north 5 or more years ago. Anyway, a week ago he sent me this picture with this comment:

"Hi all:

Well, with some regrets but also a bit of excitement for the new owner (see photo, center), I finally sold number 1970--to a very good home down in SoCal. So welcome the newest member of the Pantera community. It's his first DeTomaso, but hopefully not his last!

BTW, Scott is looking for a well priced Mangusta. I told him "lots of luck". Anyway, don't sell your Pantera now, when word gets out, prices may spike.
