Barret-Jackson

The Barret-Jackson Auction takes place from 1/25 to 1/30 in Scottsdale. If you go to barret-jackson.com it will have a list of all the cars consigned. The Speed channel had coverage of last years auction on New Years Day.

I am going to Arizona to check the auction out and I will try and remember what the Panteras go for. I will report back.

We will also be attending the BJ Auction. However, as a matter of history, Panteras have always done poorly and so have Mangustas at auction. Maybe that will change this year. Dave

I saw the white pre-l go for 37,000. Nice stock car with 10 inch campys. I think the buyers premium is 8% on top of that.

Blue pantera went today for 55620.00

I scoured the results page at BJ, but couldn't find the 72 car listed. It was lot 444 and it's skipped in the results. It sure looks like a nice car...

The white one was for sale in the Auto Trader-Collector Car Trader for some time,, The listing is still there,,Car was in Santa Monica CA.

The blue car is posted on the site as selling for 55K, I think this include the 8 percent buyers premium. From the photos it could have been a good buy.

As for the $37,000 Pantera..it's interesting, but not surprising, it didn't sell for more money. Most car folks I've talked to are really intrigued by the car and prefer a modified and updated cat.

This was my approach a couple of years ago when I was looking for my Pantera. I decided to go for a wingless black GT-5 conversion because it's the body style I desired. I just happen to LOVE the aggressive look of a GT-5.

The car has truly been enjoyable and trouble-free and I love it more today than the first day I bought it.

I saw both cars. They were definitely above average condition. The prices realized were quite good for being sold at an auction. I also believe that this is good evidence that Pantera prices are on the rise. Some recent postings suggest that some asking prices are inflated by sellers. Consider that a 1981 Boxer was auctioned on Saturday night at only 41,000 dollars and I think it is clear that Pantera prices are definitely moving up. Now if only some Pantera owners would believe it and quit criticizing others who are trying to obtain market prices. Dave

I agree completely!

I donot think the negative effects of a modest price rise, say from 'some' average of $35,000 to an average price of $45K would be significant.

Look what new cars cost, just for an "inflation-adjusted" value. Even when you consider that technology has taken a big jump from the late 1970's to now.

I don't see this increase as having a strong upward pressure on parts sales, or other areas that affect "current" owners, either.

Too rapid of a value rise woulddraw the 'wrong crowd'.

Personally, I believe the 'average' Pantera that was $25,000 back in 1997/8 is now $35K.

Some good prices on our cars

IMHO, some of the ridiculous priced being paid for some pretty unexciting cars at BJ make the Panteras sold there look like a real steal! I'm happy if prices go up a bit. It's not like we pay a yearly tax on the car's value (not in Canada anyway), so why would anyone want the price to go down? What else even comes close for style, performance and exclusivity - even at 50K?
I agree with whip, I bet they would be MUCH higher if sold on Saturday or Sunday.

Last year I was driving my car and a guy in a mid-eighties Monte Carlo waved me over. He got out and made over my car and asked me how much I would sell it for. This hadn't happened before, but I had already devised an answer in my own mind that it would be double what I paid for the car eight years ago. So when I said the price, he didn't even flinch and asked me for my phone number. OMG, I was shocked. SO I spent the next few days looking for what I would replace it with. Anyone considering selling their car may want to go through this excersise to sober them up. The Pantera is the single best bargin on the face of this planet. What are the prices of new cars that are simular?? Like say a new Ford GT?? Yeah I know it lists for $142,000 but try finding one for that. Most dealers want 200K or more. So what can you get to replace a Pantera???

Your observation is totally valid. We have sold a number of Panteras for their owners only to have them come back and buy another one. The sweet siren song of Vipers and 'Vettes have stolen the hearts of many a Pantera owner. However, there is no serious Concours or Vintage Race I know of that accepts them and you can see them on every corner. Factor in values that drop like an anchor and it becomes clearer just how good a value the Pantera is, both now and in the future.

yes but just wait until pantera ARE hyped on Barrtett Blowhard's and every one with old dusty corroded pantera parts thinks they have their retirement stuffed in the rafters of their garage. Try owning an E body mopar like a 70-71 challenger or cuda and you will know just what I mean. There are already folks that want what in my opinion is too much for a used part that needs cleaning or repair. Dennis 4nford in hawaii is a notable exception. Thanks for the deals dennis you hooked me up fat on the dash brah!
