Yup-done that; bad idea. They are called 'track take-offs' and don't really work well on the street. First, they need some heat to corner any better than street tires- and there is NO way to heat tires in city traffic without becoming way too visible to the police. Second, they have very little protective rubber on the sidewalls, so one bump on a curb will have you looking at bare cord on the sidewalls. Finally, as mentioned, they tend to be porous due to thin rubber so they usually only hold air for a few hours; long enough for a race. If you manage to cope with this so far, be aware they also don't have anti-oxidents or weather-protection compounds in the rubber mix, so they age very rapidly- ozone-cracks and hardening to the point they are quickly unsafe to run anywhere.
