Hello all,

I wanted to take a minute and introduce myself to the collective.

Like many, many others here I have been in love with Panteras since I was just a kid. I have always stopped to look at any I see around me and have read a fair amount about them in magazines over the years. Since I was never in the situation where I could actually indulge my fantasy and buy one I never really got serious about my education though. Now things are slightly different and maybe if I sqeezed myself some I might finally be able to purchase my dream. I'm 52 with two kids in a private High School though so it won't be easy. I make a decent living, but am in no way rich - except where it really counts: in health, family and friends. The first step in starting my education is in joining this forum. I will do my best to read as many threads as I can while I start looking more seriously at Panteras for sale here in Southern California. I hope you'll overlook my really stupid questions and I would appreciate any and all advice. I live in Thousand Oaks in Ventura County, CA. - any owners in the area? I'll buy the coffee or beer if you will put up with my drooling and questions!

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Guys!

Thanks for the replies. I look forward to having some great conversations here and learning a bunch. Any suggestions on your personal favorite/best books, articles or reference material to cover everything Pantera?

- thanks George, I left a voice mail message at a number I found on this site there and another for a number in Fillmore, Ca. last week, but haven't gotten a reply yet. I see from your info that you are possibly located in the Ventura area also. Any chance we might be able to meet up?

BelgiumBarry: I don't take myself too seriously and got a good laugh from your comments. I lived in Europe earlier and love Belgium. I hope to come over and go to an F1 race at Spa-Francorchamps sometime in the next couple of years. The last time I was there was watching Lauda, Scheckter and Reutemann battle it out in 1975. Man, I hope 52 is mid-life cause I've got lots more living to do!

Thanks George - I kinda figured someone must just be out of town for a few days. I didn't know a name, but now I do - hope Justin gets feeling better. As an administrator you can probably access my personal email address - maybe we can figure out some logistics details for us to meet if you send me an email there?

I am considering Greg (RT66_Pantera) Benson's '71 project car but have a million questions regarding relatively stock vs highly non-stock Pantera's and the mods that have been done/need to be done on his Pantera. I might go out there this weekend to see it if it hasn't sold.
Paul,

Welcome to the wonderful world of Panteras! Greg's 71 looks like a splendid car in my opinion.

Ask away. You'll get a lot of bias from different folks here, depending on their preference, but that's part of the learning process - figuring out just what you're looking for. My preference is relatively stock with some performance and safety upgrades.

Check out my How to Buy page to begin your education:
http://www.banzairunnerpantera.com/how_to_buy.htm

And take the pre-purchase inspection checklist with you if you go look at Greg's car - pay specific attention to where/how to check for rust (the only real concern when buying a Pantera; well, ZF condition comes in close 2nd).

BTW, I was just down in your neck of the woods last weekend. Stopped in Santa Barbara and stayed in Camarillo Saturday, then on to Azusa to pick my daughter up from school for the summer. Sure wish I was driving my Pantera instead of the Sequoia!
Hi Garth,

Thanks for the good wishes. If I had started this a week ago I would have invited you to stop by my favorite hang-out in T.O. - an English pub called The Crown & Anchor - for a pint!

I had already checked out your fine website and reviewed the 'How to Buy . . .' pages links and articles I found there. (BTW I had problems with the links to Asajay, Matt Bradley and Bruce Nardoci's sites, but will try again from a different pc.) I have read Mike Dailey's site thoroughly and have written him to compliment him on it also. I have read these and need to read many more, and spent my lunch hour trying to absorb all the absolutely fantastic compilation of knowledge George Pence has compiled on his Facebook pages on the 351C. I have read, but I have not necessarily comprehended it all - that will come from seeing the referenced items more in person and building my understanding of automotive theory as well. I am not a mechanic or engineer and although I may be loosely familiar with many of the terms about engines, tranny's, sub-systems and suspensions I'm reading about - it is going to take a lot of practical application along with more study to gain an 'understanding'. I grew up overseas and never had the neighborhood guys to hang out with while they wrenched on their hot rods. I hate to admit it, but I've only driven a Pantera once about 30+ years ago when I parked cars at restaurants in Malibu - so I can't even be sure I'd fit much less not make a cock of it! So I look forward to offering my services to any of the semi-local owners that might need an extra hand while doing mods or maintenance.

I look forward to reading more of the info in your website soon.

Cheers back at ya!

Paul
