any recommendation for a pair of walky talkies, probably with remote push to talk and 12vdc power.

I use SENA in all my offroad toys, but they are mostly headsets. They have smaller devices but doesn't look like any Walky Talkies. Not the cheapest but seem to be good quality. Link below.

I have used Motorola and Midland FRS/GMRS two way radios in my Pantera. The Midlands have an earbud and a push to talk speaker and they work great on road trips. The battery life on either of these radios is good for a fully day of talking. There are plenty of other radios like this on the market and they generally can be charged using the vehicle's 12 volt DC system.
