Carb troubles

When I first start my pantera, it fires right up. Then after it warms up, I drive it for a bit, and when I turn it off, for gas or whatever reason, it won't start. The carb leaks fuel, and the engine *seems* to be flooded. A 15 to 20 minute wait seems to fix the problem, but it's a real pain. I thought it might be the float valve, but I don't know why it wouldn't flood everytime I tried to start it. It's rather warm here in Denver, but my last experience I only drove a few miles with an auxilary fan on and had the same issue. The engine temp never exceeded 160...any ideas before I tear it apart?

First, next time it won't start, try this: press the accelerator all the way down and keep it there. Then there'll be no vacuum so the engine cannot draw fuel from the carb. After a few seconds the intake will have cleared of any fuel and the car will probably start, keep the pedal down until it hits e.g. 2000 rpm, then release quickly, don't want to overrev it.

If this procedure works, that confirms that you have too rich carb situation, which the engine likes when cold, but not when hot. Float valve is a possibility, but idle screws, choke and broken/hardened power valve are other possibilities. I'd recommend a full tune of your carb as described on:
