Ok, I put the new stainless long throw on and it took forever to get the air out.
I shortened the side adjustment until there was 1/8" at the stop and check the flywheel for .040 and it was a loose .040 when checked. Had 3 threads showing on the old adjustment and 4 showing now.
The clutch shifts into all gears smoothly and reverse smoothly.
It releases and engages at the top of the pedal as before and does not seem to be slipping.
Seems that I can move the pedal slightly (1/2" or so) and it starts to release. I guess this is ok. It definately is completely released when depress and I also guess, that is what we want in order to prevent synchro damage, right?
I did have a problem locating replacement snap rings for the slave but found some that seem tight but work.
It seems odd now that the cylinder sits loose in the bracket (rotates)but does not seem to effect anything. The snap rings are in place properly. The old cylinder was frozen so tight in the bracket I had to pursuade it with my hammer.
I did notice some thick black oil deposit in the bottom of the master and cleaned it out.
Anyway, thank you all so much for the advice and assistance! Mike
