Hello everyone. My new long throw Stainless Slave got here today. I removed the old one and it was way beyond repair. When I took it off it was missing the upper snap ring. I am getting two new ones tomorrow. Why would the upper be missing I wonder?
I had to carefuly beat the old cylinger from it's mount. Now I have to sand the rough stuff out to slip the new one in place.
Looks like I will finish it tomorrow when I get the snap rings.
There were 3 treads showing on the old adjustment when removed. I assume with the long throw it will be less. Maybe one thread.
I will use a .40 feeler to double check after bleeding.
Anything I may have missed here? Please advise if I did miss something.
Thanks a million guys!
Mike

Your first question" missing snap-ring. These are high-tensile-steel and rust easily. Eventually, they break in two. The fact that rust & corrosion is so heavy on the bracket leads me to believe the ring rusted to failure. Or, someone may have simply lost it. The upper one is less important than the lower due to the way the assembly is held in the bracket.
#2- the lack of threads is because no one has yet changed the slave cylinder bellcrank lever one (1) spline further toward the back of the car, thus adjusting the cylinder. Not all the linkage adjustment is in the rod length. Your long-throw may need two splines backward. You'll just have to try.
You know jack, that makes perfect sense about the splines. I noticed that when taking the unit off. Looks like just rotating it one way or the other would make the clutch adjust just like the stock one.
I am going to leave it where it is when I install it tomorrow and see how things go.The
1/4 inch in piston length should still allow adjustment at the rod.
This setup looked like it was original to the car. You do know that I have only had the car for a couple weeks. The slave started leaking after driving about 600 miles home from where we bought the car.
Thanks for the tips and advice. Much appreciated. ;o)
