I have been a member for awhile and enjoyed reading your conversations but this is my first post.....unfortunately it is a strange one but here goes.
I am at a point in my life ( 41 ) that I can now seriously start thinking about purchasing a Pantera and affording modifications and upkeep. There is only one small (?) problem.....I am a left leg, above-the-knee amputee so clutching is not an option.
I had actually conversed by email with Lloyd Butfoy last year about transmission options but the conversation stalled mostly due to the fact that I had not done my homework. I am also sure he gets hundreds of "tire-kicker" questions and it is not his job to pursue options for me over the phone ( or email ).
Several questions.........(a)installing an automatic transmission in a Pantera is verging on sacrilegious but has anyone seen a good one?...and (b)I would imagine due to the mid-engine layout the engineering and expense required for a automatic transmission swap in a Pantera would become cost prohibitive rather quickly?
Now for the reason I actually posted....I would appreciate it if someone with more transmission knowledge than me would check out www.elap.co.uk and tell me if they think this is a viable option. On the left side of the page click on "clutch systems" and check out their "Synchrodrive" and "Duck" systems. The "Synchrodrive" system is actually an infrared clutchless system and is purported to be used on high performance cars.
Should I give up on a Pantera and start thinking about a non mid-engine car or keep pursuing this?
