I'm replacing the coil on my 1974 Pantera L. NAPA sold me a new coil that says "Use with External Resistor" stamped on it. Is this the right coil?
I explained that it's for a Ford 351 Cleveland in a Pantera. This is a stock engine except for the Pertronix unit in the distributor to eliminate the points.
The coil is a BWD Z-Series (#E70Z)

Thanks for any help,
Chuck

All stock Panteras require a coil which is used with an external resistor. In effect the coil is a 7 volt coil and when used with the resistor, drops the voltage at the coil to 7 volts. When you try to start the car the resistor is bypassed but as the starter motor takes a heavy load on the battery, the effect is a car that starts easier. The resistor can be in the form of a resistive wire which is in the wiring loom (later Pantera's) or an external resistor (early Pantera's).
