Someone named Jeff just paid $900 for Pantera doorlocks. Is this the going rate for these things?

If it is, then it's good for me since I have two boxed NOS sets which I purchased years ago and I'm holding onto.

But, more importantly, it's not good for Pantera owners. Doorlocks now cost 2-3% the cost of the car? I can't cover my ebay costs with a NOS engine bay spreader bar?? Nor my NOS rear swaybar? But doorlocks I'll make a killing.

Makes no sense.

Ron,

The $900 sale was an NOS SET (both doors and trunk). What is more flabergasting is previously on June 13 an NOS set had sold on eBay for a whopping $1100.

I actually need the door lock barrels replaced on #7024, but when I talkedd to Larry Stock at PPC he got confused and wanted to sell me the complete door lock assembly, he was talking $650 for the set.

I think once again we are seeing prices hyped up on eBay, it's not uncommon and not just a 'Pantera' thing.

Julian brings up a good point. The cost was for the entire door handle assembly and trunk. Although the door handle tubs are available the rest of the assembly (except for the springs) is no longer manufactured and evidently no one has them in stock. The de Tomaso BB had a discussion regarding this issue and, although many possible donor vehicles were explored, it appears this is an exclusively Pantera piece. I wonder if this was the same set, with the new owner trying for more money?
Ron,

No apologies needed, undoubtedly the price was high.

Unfortunately their is uncertainty around what NOS spares are out in the market place (and those hidden away in barns, lofts, garages etc.). Those spares that are out there appear to be in the hands of a minority and the 'supply and demand' factor is at play and for sure being manipulated to some extent. As always it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it, that doesn't mean that you or I are willing to pay that much.

For the Pantera (and for now at least) there is very little or no premium on a 'Concours' original car, hence it only make sense to pay the premium price for NOS spares if you are a speculator rebuilding a P car that believes that the Pantera is a 'sleeper' awaiting to be awakened (and I advocate that). We should let those speculators spend their money and hope that indeed they are right, so that when the 'beast is awakened' we can all ride on the back of the general price jump in Pantera prices.

The down side of that could be that it changes the type of person buying a Pantera and then George's famously cornered term of 'Pangasm' loses it's underlying meaning and many Pantera's don't see the light of day other than to change hands at Barret-Jackson.

Not that mine is for sale at any price...I take that back, I suppose everything has a price as we have just seen above with door locks.

Julian
