Back in the 80s, in San Diego, I needed a little work on my 73L. I had the pleasure of finding Lance Nist and while he was doing the repairs on his lift, he noticed that I needed a few drain holes drilled into some members under the car (He said it was a known issue and a common "upgrade"). He just pulled out a drill and ~1/4" bit and went zip-zip...I think it was about 1/3 of the way from the back of the car.

Anyway, this weekend I was trying to show someone the little mod...and I couldn't find the holes. Anyone know what I was looking for?

Besides the 1/2" subframe holes that were recommended in the '70s, I add a 1/2" hole at the very base of each upper rear a-arm support- the so-called 'horseshoe' stamping. Drilling a hole at the bae of each leg invariably gets a fine stream of rust and dirt out. For those who live in moist areas, we used to cork up drilled subframe holes, fill the rails with drain oil, let the car set for awhile then pull one cork and let the excess drizzle into a pan over a day or so. This coats the unseen areas and really protects the rails.
FWIW a leaky rad cap will drain water down the tank, down the fender panel directly into the right side frame-top opening. Driving in wet weather will also FILL both frame rails with water if they're not drilled; I've demonstrated this to many owners by having them stick their finger in their car's frame opening; invariably there's wetness felt inside.
Here's a link to that Pantera Place article on corrosion with diagrams of the most common sites for rust - Corrosion Article

It has a couple of images of where drain holes should go -

Boss and others, any other images or diagrams of additional spots to put drain-holes? I have the standard holes listed in the article, but it sounds like you're describing some extra ones.
