OK I'll ask since no one else has. What exactly "if" anything is a 1972 874 Pantera?? I can't understand the significance and did it actually come with the GT5 body kit from the factory?? Thanks, inquiring minds want to know.
DETOMASO874 (then a star) THPNDG09434 is stamped on the footwell box under my front hood. I'm pretty sure all Panteras also had this stamping preceding their VIN.
This picture is very difficult to see, but the 874 is in the white box.
874 * is De Tomaso’s code for the Pantera. The Deauville is an 892 and the Vallelunga is an 807
The 72 Panteras from serial 4269 had the warranty "plate" attached to the foot well box as shown in Michael's (Cyboman) pic above.
The 71/72 Panteras before serial 4269 had the warranty "plate" attached to the front door "B" pillar.
My 71 Pantera has the last three numbers of its' serial number stamped on the headlight buckets and the car doors. There may be other places (that I haven't gotten to yet) that this number is stamped. Many other parts had the last four numbers of the serial number hand written in white "crayon".
Is 874 the last three numbers of your serial number? That seems rather odd if they are not, unless the factory stamped 874 on the very early 71's and then changed to the abbreviated serial number later in the year.
