Exhaust Question Solved & Tubi Style Ramps Up

You will recall that while on the Maserati Factory Tour, we were surprised to see that the USA exhaust headers were much smaller in diameter than the European ones, strange given that they both produce the same horsepower.

Yesterday (Thursday, March 28) I had a discussion with Sig. Fausto Lettieri, owner of Tubi Style located in Maranello. The answer seems quite simple. The larger European tubes contain a smaller tube inside which is the same diameter as the USA tubes (a tube within a tube). Something about heat containment to boost efficiency of the catalytic converters. Sig. Lettieri thinks that the larger tubes will be phased out in favor of the USA type. Something tells me we have not heard the last of this, so stay tuned . . .

Sig. Lettieri also pointed out that his USA distributor had taken over 200 exhaust orders for the 4.2 liter Maserati Spyder. He pointed out that his replacement exhaust will not add any horsepower, but WILL add a great new sound that Tubi Style exhausts are known for.

On my last day in Modena . . .
