If youve been thinking about doing a website to post some images of your Pantera using a free service like geocites but have been disappointed with the funky website interface that doesnt provide the ability to control the page format, image thumbnails, etc., I think I found the answer. I was playing around with a geocities website account today and discovered that it is possible to create the website on your local computer using web publishing tools like Microsoft Front Page or other professional HTML editor like you would do with a normal website and then use the geocites file manager that comes with the geocites account to transfer the pages to the geocites site. The file manager can upload five files at a time/per pass.

I was surprised how easy it was and how well it worked! Of course geocites accounts are limited in size and bandwidth usage and are limited to one website address per person for a website that is within the same Yahoo geocities neighborhood or that has the same theme. I guess you could have a car site theme URL, a bike theme URL, etc. and be legal. I think they are trying to keep people from setting up a bunch of accounts and then linking them together to overcome the size restrictions. The page to sign up for the geocities web site is at http://geocities.yahoo.com/ The terms of service of what can be done with the websites is at http://docs.yahoo.com/info/terms/geoterms.html

This is a small example of what can be done very easily http://www.geocities.com/thepanteraplace/index.htm Note the full size image, table to keep all the links lined up and the test thumbnail. Cool deal, right!

Have fun!

Mike

DOES200 uses a website called:
http://community.webshots.com/user/does200
http://www.community.webshots.com

It's free, they get to print your pictures and sell them to anyone, have advertising on the photo pages, but work pretty well from a viewers perspective. Thumbnails, full size, etc. May be less restrictive and easier to use.

I'm no technophile with my own webpage, though, so I'd like an opinion as to what is easiest, as I'd like to post some before and after shots of my Pantera project. I like to look at as many Panteras as possible to get ideas for my next projects, and maybe others do too, so this is a good thing to figure out. I'd like to see many others posting shots of their Panteras or projects....

Yup,

Webshots has also worked fine for me for almost a year now. I think the free terms limit you to ten albums of up to 24 photos. There is the option of putting quite a bit of text with each photo, and while you can't really design it as you could a web page, it serves very well for getting photos out to others. I had trouble posting shots using my Mac and AOL, until I went in using Netscape - uploads fine that way for some reason. You can view my albums at http://community.webshots.com/user/fresnofinches

I think I'm gonna go over to DOES200's place and see if I can get my Pantera "washed" because I don't do it often, and I like to have expert help... http://64.70.166.243/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/search.cgi?action=simplesearch&SearchIn=ALL&ForumChoice=ALL&SearchTerms=&BooleanAND=YES&SearchDate=1&SearchUser=&ExactName=no&File=temp-2452869- 221047-y4yz.cgi&Total=11&StartAt=A:
Thanks for the pics Mike and DOES200. I think Mike Dailey may like the color of the Pantera, does it have more or less magenta? Hmmm, better look at it a while longer

Thanks for the photos. I have been considering a gun metal grey color since I saw a late model Ferrari running down the street a mile fom my house. The color of your Pantera appeals to me. I like the way the exhasut tips are so close to the rear bumper. The Pantera East 16" 17" are what I'm planning on also. The 335/35/17 don't rub at all? That's good to know. What's the clearance of the valance from the road, looks like 4" to me. I didn't see the little Ghia emblems though. I'm thinking of getting new Ghia emblems, so I may give you a real deal on the old ones, if you like. I'd reach under the fender well in front and find the old hole and put that last, final touch on, myself. I'm gonna run mine around in white the next few years. Next year its the Pantera East wheels and the same tire package you have. Also will have some scratch for some minor motor mods next year (new timing chain and gears, set to advance, new Weiand high flow water pump, new valve guides, and maybe some other little things) The follwing year may do a hopped up 400 HP 351C or 351 Windsor, still researching, or do the gun metal grey paint.) It would hurt to have my cat in the paint phase for 2 to 6 months right now. If I paint, I'll have to pull the motor and ZF b/c my engine bay is also white, so I may do Hall's ZF deal for $1,200 and get the ZF inspected, re-shimmed, and polished, definitely get the safety wiring done and maybe do a taller 5th gear.) These things can be money pits, as I see you have experienced. Good looking Pantera, Larry. Thanks for the pics.
The nice thing about the site that Mike mentions, is that it is more like an actual website. The webshots is more for just posting photos. Not to say one is better than the other, but they both seem to serve different purposes. I also have a primitive funky website (I believe AOL), and it does have size restrictions too. Webshots does too, but didn't reach my limit...yet. Website below:

Mike, real nice color on that car. A candy color?

The color is very unusual. It is a three stage paint job with a base coat, scarlet red color coat and heavy clear coat that looks like glass. It has a very fine metallic that is deep down in the paint under the color coat. It changes color hue depending on the lighting. This link has a number of images that show how the paint changes with different lighting http://www.panteraplace.com/page5.html I talked to the shop in Texas that did the paint in 1991 but they could not remember the colors used.

Hmmmm.

Mike Dailey, I don't see your scarlet red on the list of detomaso colors, hence it should NOT be on your car. I know you bought it that way, but it is wrong!! Just like those goofy vents on your front hood.

Respect these cars and keep them as they looked in, say, 1971!!!!

Keep_It_Stock

You should start a Keep_It_Stock website! You could provide us all with valuable insight on how to keep a 32 year old car completely stock. Actually, I like stock Panteras very much.
Dear keep-it-stock,

I assume by your less-than-friendly post and your 'new member' status that you must be a newbie to the Pantera Family. You just happened to pick on Mike Dailey for your second post to this bulletin board and in so doing really showed how little you know about this Family. Mike's personal website, www.PanteraPlace.com is the finest private site devoted to Panteras in the world. He has no doubt forgotten more than you have learned about these amazing cars. I would be AMAZED BEYOND BELIEF if your car is totally stock. If you still have the original tires on your car, then that car is not safe to drive at anywhere near to its designed potential. That would make it a garage/trailer queen, and that begs the question "What good is it?" These cars are sports cars, they have no purpose other than driving. The changes we make to them are for the most part intended to maintian their roadworthyness for their intended purpose. You ARE entitled to your opinion - but perhaps you could share with us your reasons and pleasure in keeping your car 'stock' instead of throwing stones at others who choose not to do as you do.

Hi Mike, I'm not computer savvy at all so the website is out of the question unless I can convince my grandkids to help out. It's taken me this long to find this website!

You'll find that, with the exception of tires (which are disposable anyway), this car is pretty easy to keep stock. Been doing it for the last 32 years of driving my all original beauty.

I've been doing my part, now do yours. Cover those useless holes on your hood and return your very public car back to its original factory color.

Dear Keep-It-Stock -

Have I got great news for you! Go to eBay Motors right NOW, type in "arriva" in the search window, and voila!!!

Original tires for your original car.

After buying them you'll have no excuse for not having a totally stock Pantera. So don't delay, get your bid in now, and toss out those non stock tires and return your car back to its original factory tires.

Spoken like a true Liberal Slacker.
Okay. I have to put in my two cents.

I've owned my Panteras for almost 30 years. I started with a stock one then found out all the wonderful things one could do to make this amazing car look even better and run so much faster, smoother and more reliably. Guys like Mike help lovers of this work of art discover the incredible variety and talent among Pantera owners and Pantera shops.

Stock is okay. To each his own. But these cars are not museum pieces for glass showcases. And most Pantera owners bought them because their knees went weak the first time they saw that rear end view. We love to drive them. And they are not financial investments.

Don't knock individual taste. It's what separates this breed from Ferraris and most other exotics.
A "no longer stock" Pantera sure sounds better and leaves most 1/2 million dollar babies vibrating in the dust. Actually, aside from putting my foot down, I also love rolling slowly past my neighbors' parked stock exotics as my 2000rpm low thunder sends their alarms screaming.

Looks meaner. Sounds better. Goes faster. All for less than half the price. Cool Italian styling. Good 'ole American iron. A lot of love. And good taste.
Individuality.
