Took my car out tonight for a short trip. When I got home I noticed the GEN light was dimly illuminated. Never been like that before. The car has the GM 12SI alternator so all of the regulator and rectifier function is on-board and solid state. I tried turning on loads and then off and also restarting the car a few times with no change. Next I observed the AMP guage which seemed to indicate the battery was draining. Stepping on the gas pedal showed the AMP gauge charging the battery more than usual. At this point I'm thinking the regulator rectifier module is dying. The alternator is a remanufactured unit. It doesn't have many miles on it, maybe a couple thousand but I don't have any idea of the quality of the part.
Anyone seen this before? I think I'll order a new regulator rectifier module for it and see. The Fun Rally is just a couple weeks away and we're driving down so I need to get this fixed asap.
