March 2018 update: Now getting more serious about selling, so if anyone is interested just shoot me an email to get things rolling: ciao4u2@aol.com

Both cars are impeccable show cars (show & big go). If no interest, will probably start with ebay first or classic car trader as initial stabs at the market.

Sorry, I guess I should explain more. I get the itch to sell once in a while for various reasons and then end up pulling back, as you know we all have unique cars which are hard to let go. However I finally discovered I just have too many toys and it is getting to be a bit much with working full time. But the main reason is that they just get too much attention, and oddly enough that can get a little annoying. For example, yesterday I just took them out for some quick exercise & gas, stopped on the side of the road to snap a couple photos and got mobbed by people stopping & chatting and taking their selflies by the car. Half hour later same at the gas station. After that was done, then the police followed me home. They were car guys too and just wanted to chat, so that part ended on a good note as I thought I was getting a ticket for noise, no wipers, or something. So all that was about two hours, and I only took out one car, and then had similar occurrences with the other car. I know you guys know what I am talking about, and am sure you felt the same on occasion where attention is fun but sometimes it gets to be a bit much. I really don't know how movie stars handle it, as similar, they can't just go out anywhere without getting mobbed all the time.

Haha, how did you know? Actually thinking of retirement and getting a VW Bus and traveling the coast with the puppies & wife. So it's funny you knew VW. In the mean time I would still have 5 other cars to play with after selling...still too much.

Thanks. Of course never seen rain & just drive it to shows mainly if at all. Plus being pretty anal, I tend to polish & wax the underside and suspension just like the top of the car. Basically I just run it around the neighborhood in my socks every 3 weeks to wake the neighbors and keep it well maintained. With those special valve covers/girdle, can go nicely above 6k RPM no problemo to make them fall out of bed.

Damn!

Ha ha, yes, choices choices...red car & redhead. But the true love may let you bust out the cash anyway for making the right choice. I usually get on my knees and beg, works for me.

Just saying.....

What, Ferrari purebreds interested in Panteras? What the hey! I think I tried posting in that Ferrari website before tagging onto some discussions about my cars, but the post got canned because they said I had to pay and can't freely post about cars for sale. So I just posted "info" instead. But anyway, I have a guy interested, but he needs to work out some financing, so I will see how that goes. He desires that I take down ads in the mean time, but I would prefer keeping the ads just in case. I guess this is reality, because who really keeps cash in their mattress anymore.

I agree. Ferrari people find Panteras so degrading. Italian car day shows tend to bear this out. I've never had a Ferrari owner even speak to me. They all but take out an aerosol air freshener after I walk by? After I drove by and the guy put on his windshield washer speaks volumes.

A Detomaso is just a fancy Fiat with an American irrigation engine in it to them. Even worse, Detomaso went partners with Ford on the Pantera. Yuck!

No different than the Corvette guys who won't look at you at the light though.

By the same token, they don't talk to the Lamborghini guys either. Maybe it's a reverse compliment. They must realize they are out gunned by virtually everyone...except Fiat that is?

Doug, Its not as bad as you make out to be here in So Cal. I used to go to Irvine C&C often with the Pantera, 575M, and the Bora. I don't think I was treated any differently.

I will say however, If I take any of the above cars to a local muscle car show no one even looks at them. (my mustangs they look at) I guess its all Italian crap to those old (by old I mean not open minded)American iron straight line guys.

A few years ago, I wound up beside a new baby-blue Ferrari (sorry, I can't keep up with their new cars)at a stop light. We caught each other's eye and he spoke first with something like "That is a beautiful car."

I have on several occasions spent 10-20 minutes discussing Panteras with Ferrari owners at various Monterey events.

And PCNC old timers tell the story of a few members stopping to offer assistance to a parked-at-the-side-of-the-road Ferrari. Unable to resolve the problem, they moved on. But next year, guess who was in the deTomaso corral with his new Pantera? He said many fellow Ferrari owners had just cruised by as he sat on the road side. After the PCNC offer of help, he decided he wanted to belong to THAT type of group, not his no-offer-of-help fellow Ferrari owners.

YMMV
A couple of years ago we drive to a classic car show , a friend of a friend drive a brand new Ferrari Spider, and also dont talk whit us as a driver of a old Iso Grifo 7 litri .

But when we drive on the high way he must give every horse power into his Ferrari to sty close by me , and whit the brembo brake's even my Grifo stop's great into the today's traffic.
He was suprised about the muscle from the old style ironcast egine.Long story short, now he owns 2 Grifo's and 2 Pantera's and when we go to a car show he drive alway's one of those US powered cars.

I don't think that the Ferrari guys necessarily mean anything by it at all. They are just into their cars. If you watch them they are definitely floating around on endorphins. Been there...done that! Big Grin

I will say that I got VERY uncomfortable at an Italian Car Day show I went to in Staten Island.

As far as friction between the makes, here it's always been that way. A guy at a car show with a Hemi something, (I could have sworn it was a Checker Cab) came over to break them on me with my Shelby and started on the roll bar. "Why would you ever conceivably need one in that car? It's a Ford isn't it?"

The Cobra guys would start with the Corvettes about "there is better fiberglass in a toilet seat than a Corvette", and on and on.

I was at Lime Rock Raceway once and was looking at a "Ferrari Daytonna 'Cabriolet'" parked unattended. The owner came running up to move it and says "do you even know what you are looking at?". (and he wasn't kidding with the attitude either) I said "yes, a 'Daytonna Convertible', I was trying to determine if it is factory or an 'aftermarket' car. Seems the original convertibles there are only 25 of and lots of people are making "copies" and want a million for the copies".

I don't think he liked that answer. He glared pretty hard at me. All 5'6" of him. Never did point out the serial number to show it was real or not? Big Grin

I always liked Gary Hall. That kind of stuff never bothered him and he always made me feel welcome and relaxed and enjoyed all of the cars.

Look. Most car manufacturers are industrialists and they are competitive in a lot of different ways. It's like a NFL game between the Dallas Cowboys and the NY Giants.
I'll bet no one says, "excuse me for stepping on your toes or sorry? Why car owners pick sides I'm not sure.

The Steinbrenner family (who owns the Yankees) could care less what I think. "Just buy a ticket and go sit down".

Most of the time "I did something" to piss someone off, I never knew what it was. sometimes I just think it's because I'm breathing.

If you remember the story of the local cop looking at my Panteras engine and saying loudly "that's illegal!", that's a true story.

Maybe I'm just too sensative when people say these things to me? I'll admit it. When a woman tells me "drop dead", I get upset, I think she really means that? Big Grin
I don't want to kill off any stereotypes, but there are several of us whom own Panteras as well as Ferraris.
Some of us even modify our Ferarris!
There are Ferrari "car" guys and Ferrari "lifestyle" guys. I find the "car" guys to generally be easygoing and helpful just like the Pantera guys. The "lifestyle" guys are another breed.
So Jan, I guess you aren't interested in working a trade with my 360 Spyder and "99 Proof" then? Smiler

Don't get me wrong, I really do like Ferarris, and have never encountered any ill things from Ferrari owners. It's just that Panteras to me are so much more "bad boy" and just plain obnoxious, which suits me fine after wearing a stiff white shirt and tie all day. It's like riding a chopper, vs a fancy bike. Plus it seems Panteras tend to somehow retain the radical exotic look, whereas Ferrari to me looks somewhat dated as time passes. Even the 430 seems dated to me now, whereas three years ago I was considering one. Maybe it is the curvy style, or that I see them on the street and at shows all the time, but they have lost the big "umph" for me anyway, and can't quite put my finger on it. I think it is just the "Bad Boy" thing.
I hear that! I love 99 Proof and suspect that someday my GT5 Clone will become a GT5S clone.

It's fun to see how people react towards a person depending on which car they drive. Completely different demographic and attitude of people when I drive the Pantera (goofy and obnoxious) vs the Ferrari (asshole), and a very different reaction to the Aston Martin (understated and elegant). I'm sure you experience the same with your Mercedes'.

The Pantera is unique in that no matter the sex or demographic, it makes everybody that sees and hears it grin.

That being said, there are few things that are more fun than driving a mid-engined Ferrari (poorly in my case) around a race track.

Good luck with your sale, if I had less cars or more space I would definitely be interested.

Mike
If Pantera people have opinions about Ferrari people, isn't that reinforcing the stereotype? Look, we're all car people.

I've met Pantera jerks, Ferrari jerks, Corvette jerks... yet have been blessed to meet and know FAR more good 'car people' regardless of marque preference.

Back on topic -

Both Panteras are gorgeous machines, incredible detail work on each. I mean, it's unreal that one person has both! Why not just sell one and let the other become your sole Pantera lust? Would be curious what you're moving to from those great cars.

If you'd care to PM me your price 'range', I'd be discreet as you'd prefer. I know some people (including Ferrari people who are great folks) who've mentioned adding a Pantera.

No matter what, best wishes on the sale. Either car would be a proud addition to any garage.

"Can't we all just get along?" -Rodney King. He's kiding right?

@ A Hudosn. I prefer to limit my comments not to stereotypes but to actual experiences. I once had an assistant tell me on the QT, "you have to forget this stuff. You remember too much." Smiler

Seems I've been stereotyped too. With the Shelby I was at a light and someone I went to High School with came around the corner, stopped and said, "what are YOU doing with 'THAT' ". Roll Eyes

Then there was the guy who "pulled me over", like a cop would, against the curb and blocking me from leaving, rolling down the window and yelling, "hey, do you know what that is?"

I have nothing against Ferrari owners at all, they have ALWAYS been very respectful, but they could wind up being one of my customers (they can afford me) and having a better car than they do, like having a better car than your father, in these 'parts' is just not permissible. Shows disrespect and anti-social behavior here. A definite attitude on my part. Smiler

Ferari owners prefer to be left alone and mind their own business. (My observations so far). Just when they all get together at an Italian Car Day show, kinda' looks like they are choosing up sides. All them over there and you-z over here. Makes me nervous.

I guess the social relationships between these groups just varies according to where you are in the country? NY, Chicago, Dallas, Vegas, Miami, LA, all are noticeably different on how they relate to motor vehicles of any type. In some places they just have pickup truck days I'll bet?

Do I need to wear boots to that one or are my sneakers still acceptable? Anyone on that...

I had a guy throw a garbage can in front of me? Eeker

Maybe he just wanted a ride?

Ha ha, with me it's just usually the neighbor shaking the fists while I warm up in the driveway. In sunny southern CA when I cruise the coast, all I get is foxy women flashing when I drive by. It seems more common when they are in groups of 4 or more. I have not figured out why that happens, but I ain't complaining. Much better than garbage cans.
