GTS Clock

I had exactly the same problem with an NOS GTS clock I bought on eBay.

Keep in mind, these clocks are about 45 years old. Accordingly, the 1970's grease that lubricated the workings when it was manufactured, solidified decades ago. Just send it to a gauge shop to be disassembled, cleaned and lubricated. I recommend either North Hollywood Speedometer & Clock or Palo Alto Speedometer. If you've fried the workings by messing around with it, North Hollywood can install VDO workings. Palo Alto can likely do it as well. There are no external signs of this being done and even the time setting knob still works. It isn't cheap to have this done (about $350, if I recall) but GTS clocks are rare and valuable, so it's worth the expense.

Definitely not fried. I was very careful. Before I send it off I'll try tapping it lightly and/or moving the hands with the setting knob. If that doesn't work I guess I'll try one of the vendors. Thanks for the reply.

Is this an "Electronico" or "Quarzo" or ???? type of a clock?

Or is it vintage "pre-electronics"????

The pre versions were just like you had in your old Mustangs and Camaros...."Click"....tic toc tic toc tic toc........CLICK....tic toc...tic toc..... There was a electro magnetic thing set up in the clock and a wind up spring....that would wind down after operating about 5-10 minutes...then contacts on the wind down portion would close, activating the electromagnet which would force the wind up thing to wind.....and repeat.

The electronico and quarzo were just that, electronic versions.......typically they just work...so don't beat them up too much!

You could put an ohm meter across the power lead to ground and see what you get.....open or direct short??

I have a stash of these clocks around in my shelves, but some are more noisy than others....they tend to keep good time....just noisy! Perhaps I need to dig them out and hook them up to 12V!!!! But wait, I need one!!!
