My car did not come with wiper arms, the seller said he is sending them, but I have not seen them yet Frowner I have the car booked in for the inspection, and they need to be on and working. Where I am we don't have a Pantera store like you lucky guys in the USA !! Does anyone know if anything else may fit ?? even if I have to modify the arms, length etc ?? All I need are the arms, the blades I can source etc .
I only need these for the inspection after that I can take them off while I wait for the right units.

Thanks in advance Smiler

Paul,

The motor and ancilliaries are British Leyland and similar was used on Austin Mini, Jaguar, Landrover, MGB and others of the period. Hence, you should be able to find something there in Aus. at a British parts supplier.

I just compared the Pantera with the MGB in the garage and the splines look the same. My wipers are an 18" arm, with a 16" blade.

Good luck,
Thanks to Joules5 I now have Jaguar wiper arms. ( who said Jags were good for nothing !! )
but my wipers rest facing the passenger side ( right). with this the wiper only comes up and wipes half the drivers vision ! I noticed many cars with the wipers resting to the left ?? Has mine been altered ? It is a genuine USA car and left hand drive. What can I do to fix it ? do they perhaps reverse the polarity on the wiper motor or something ??
As always any help would be greatly appreciated. Smiler

I have just realised , because I am using right hand drive wiper arms, I am fairly screwed !! I need left hand wiper arms, to put them the other way. still weird that the wipers park in that position though.
I noticed on mine the wiper stubs exit the left han d side of the cowels. where the ones in the pics all seem to exit the right hand side ??

as you can see in this pic.
I wish the owner who sold me the car put the wipers with it. or at least sent them like he promised Frowner

Paul,

I thought this fix was just to get you through the inspection, you mean you're actually going to use the wipers, haven't you heard Pantera's melt in the rain. roll on floor

Yes I forgot depending on year depends whether the wipers are right or left park. I always thought the right park was introduced with the L models, but I just checked and notice my two Pantera's are opposite (this shows how much I take notice as I don't have wipers on either, just Rainex and my right foot to get the rain to bead over the top Big Grin)

The '74L is left park, the later GT5 right park (as all later cars I've sen), but I've seen earlier Pre-L cars that were left park too. Confused Did DT switch back again with the later Embo bodied cars?

In theory the right park that you have with the correct angle arm should clear a better field of vision as the sweep terminates parallel to the left extreme of the windshield, rather than an arc to your left side that occurs with the reverse sweep.

The wiper motor uses a three way set of brushes for the two speeds so it sounds like one brush (or wiring/connector) is bad. Taking the motor off and bench testing it is fairly easy after removing the panel under the Passenger front wheel wheel. The flexible drive shaft will come out with the motor, unless your can remove the gear cover to release it.

Again you can source replacement parts from the usual BL sources. It is referred to as a 14W style motor. The motors are pretty easily rebuildable, especially as it sounds like your park switch is okay. Here's a link to a good UK site that carries all the parts and has a decent schematic of the motor, maybe you can print it out and take it to a local supplier to show what you need.

Good luck

Hi, well I now have the 2 speed wipers working.
And I do think as you say changing the angle of the wiper arms will help me.
Every picture of Panteras I have either park to the left or have no wipers.
If anyone has a pic of a wiper that parks to the right on or off a car that would be greatly appreciated. Smiler
Oh I won't be driving it in the rain, but the authorities will laugh at me if they see them working at half screen !

The right park windshield wipers started with the 1974 models, chassis number 5900.

Yes, I thought the change was with the '74 model. I just hadn't realized/noticed until now that post Ford cars were switched back to left park.

Paul; Note that the wiper wheelboxes are shifted over in the grille, so not that easy to convert from one to the other. To prevent anyone laughing at you simply remove the wipers altogether and put some little plastic caps over the wheelboxes like most of us have done!

I got caught in a thunderstorm on the way to Vegas in '06 and the rain beaded up and straight over the roof with the Rainex coating on the screen.
