NEED HELP TO DETERMINE A FAIR PRICE FOR A 1972 PANTERA. ENGINE SEEMED SOUND AND WAS VERY STRONG AND HAD TWIN TURBO INSTALLED. TRANSMISSION SHIFTED CLEAN WITHOUT ANY GRINDING BUT THE SHIFT GATE WAS BROKEN. INTERIOR IS IN FAIR CONDITION, COULD NOT GET THE INTERIOR LIGHTING TO WORK. THE BODY SEEMED TO BE SOUND WITH A FAIRLY FRESH PAINT JOB. I COULD NOT SEE ANY VISIBLE RUST. IF I WERE RATING THE CAR I WOULD GIVE IT AN OVERALL 5 AN A SCALE OF 1-10. THE SERIEL # IS 3045. ANY HELP WITH THIS WOULD BE APPREICIATED AND IF ANYONE KNOWS OF IT'S PAST HISTORY.

THANKS,

FRANK GOLDEN

Typical 'driver' Panteras needing some work are maybe $20,000. I would first get a "bondo-meter" or paint-thickness gauge to see whats under that shiny paint. Rust repairs on these cars will bankrupt you unless you are highly skilled or own your own body shop. Then I would get a local expert to assess the condition of the ZF transaxle in there. A complete overhsul on a worn-out ZF (now 31 years old, remember) can exceed $10,000. Most of the rest is replaceable at reasonable cost/effort. But those two can wreck your budget forever.
